ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Jo Shepherd grew up on a family farm near the small town of Moosomin, Saskatchewan with her parents Guy and Lori, and younger siblings Justin and Gena. Jo moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba after high school, and completed a history degree; in 2010, she participated in a Youth Outreach program in printmaking run by Martha St. Studio in downtown Winnipeg. The class learned basic techniques in linocut, copper etching, monoprinting, and screen printing. Jo was most attracted to linocut, which involves carving images on smooth linoleum, rolling them with ink and impressing the image on paper or fabric. Since then, while obtaining a Library and Information Technology diploma and raising her son Milo, Jo has continued to make hand-printed linocut artwork on paper and cardstock for sale and gifts. She feels fortunate to have her own printing press and art room in the Regina home she shares with Milo.
