Kids’ After School Art Program
REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!
Encourage your child's love of art and watch their creativity blossom!
Your child will have the opportunity to learn about the elements of art, the principles of design and the rules of composition to use in their exploration and expression. We will have three separate blocks of classes available, sign up for all three or the one that interests your child the most.
Our after school program will run from 3:15 - 5 pm every weekday!
Pick one specific day of the week and your child will attend that same day each week. For example, my kids will go every Tuesday.
Sign up through the links below. One form per child.
MVAC’s After School Program is funded in part by the Community Initiatives Fund. Thank you for your generous support!
BLOCK 1 - Sketching, Painting and Cardmaking
Spring Version: February 3 - March 21, 2025
If your child was enrolled in the Fall version of Block 1, repeating this block in the Spring version means we will be taking the basics we developed a bit further and working on more complex topics.
Sketching: We will learn how the basic shapes are used and how to use one and two-point perspective. We will explore different mediums like pencil, charcoal, pastels, as well as ink and the care needed when using these supplies.
Painting: Incorporating what we have learned about the elements of art, and basics of design we will produce watercolour and acrylic paintings, incorporating care of painting supplies and differences between the two medium in our studies.
Cardmaking: We will explore various cardmaking techniques and tools for cutting and fastening our materials to make at least a four-card set suitable for use for a special occasion. Participants would learn how to safely and respectfully use the cricut machine, cutting mats, knives, paper trimmers and quilling materials.

BLOCK 2 - Candle making, Wood burning and Carving
March 31st - May 23rd
Candle Making: We will produce at least 1 floating candle, 1 container candle and a few mold or smaller whipped candles. Participants would learn how to safely and respectfully melt, handle, scent and color their waxes in the making of their candle(s).
Wood Burning: Each participant will plan and complete the creation of one wall-hanging plaque using a variety of woodburning tips to create desired textures. This would be a two-dimensional project, leading into the carving where woodburning tools might be used to finish their wood carvings.
Wood Carving: We will start with a soap carving that would allow us to experiment with our carving techniques and orientate us to appropriate, safe and respectful use of our tools. We will end the session with a wood carving that may or may not (participant's choice) include woodburning to finish it.
If your child participated in the fall version of this series of classes, know we will be further developing the skills and knowledge they learned the first time around and their activities will be different!
